Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 3.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions:

  1. Combine warm milk and granulated sugar in the mixer bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in melted butter and the room-temperature egg.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt. Mix on low speed until a shaggy dough forms, then switch to the dough hook.
  4. Knead for 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl and let rise for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal pieces using dental floss or a knife.
  9. Place buns in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake for 30 minutes at 350°F.
  10. Whisk together softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream until smooth. Spread over warm buns.
