Ingredients:

  • 12 pieces Babybel cheese wheels, wax removed
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed but cold
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 24 pieces candy eyeballs
  • 1/2 tsp flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the cold puff pastry slightly on a lightly floured surface and use a pizza cutter to slice the dough into strips approximately 1/4 inch wide.
  3. Place a Babybel wheel on a pastry strip and wrap the dough around the cheese in an overlapping, haphazard fashion, leaving a small gap at the top for eyes.
  4. Press the ends of the pastry strips firmly into the bottom of the cheese to secure them.
  5. Brush each mummy generously with the egg wash mixture (beaten egg and water).
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes until the pastry is mahogany-colored and the cheese begins to ooze.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately press two candy eyes into the gap at the top of each mummy.
  8. Optional: Sprinkle with a pinch of flaky sea salt before serving.
